Belarusian automobile roads construction department Bialautador and the Ministry of Sports and Tourism are now considering creating big bicycle beltway in Belarus to attract more foreign tourists. Today it is planned to extend the bicycle lane along Minsk–Viciebsk highway (M3)б ej.by reports.
However, there are intentions to link Zaslauje, Raubichy, Hrodna, Mahiliou, Shklou, Orsha, and Viciebsk and also to build a bicycle beltway around Minsk. Furthermore, within the frameworks of a EU programme, a bicycle lane linking Druskininkai, Lithuania and Hrodna, Belarus, is being built. The Minister of Sports and Tourism says that economic reasonability of such bicycle lanes is going to be calculated. However, he also highlights the necessity to build bicycle lanes in accordance with the president’s command as Belarus loses its tourist potential through absence of bike lanes which are abundant all over the Europe.
