Opposition activist Dzmitry ShurkhaJ was arrested by police in Brest on Thursday evening after flyers calling for a boycott of the forthcoming House of Representatives elections were discovered in his bags.
Mr. ShurkhaJ, a coordinator of the Belarusian Christian Democracy (BCD) party in the Brest region, was picked up by police officers at the central bus terminal in Brest at 7:15 p.m., human rights defender Raman Kisliak told.
“Shurkhay probably got the bags from someone at the bus station,” Mr. Kisliak said. “He was taken to a district police station. Police will question him and check whether the flyers in question carry data about the publisher and the printer.”
